There are times when we need to be nimble, seize new market opportunities, and quickly wrangle new data sources and analyze their usefulness, look for possible correlations, and run through analytical and AI/ML models.

Yet at some point, if we continue to use the data set, we need to go back and perform data hygiene, conform definitions and dimensions, add descriptive metadata, secure and catalog it, and generally make this data available in a more trusted, stable, and well-understood manner throughout the enterprise.

Where and when do data governance techniques to bring this new data “into the fold” and into a more controlled environment, come into play? How do we balance and reconcile these approaches?
